The Eastern New York Air & Waste Management Association established the Brian S. Noel Memorial Scholarship following the September 2024 unexpected and untimely passing of our Chair, Brian S. Noel.
During Brian’s career as a Chemical Engineer in both industry and consulting, he made tireless efforts to improve the environment and this scholarship has been established to provide financial assistance to an individual pursuing undergraduate study in an environmentally related, engineering related or chemistry field.
Thanks to the generosity of SABIC’s Selkirk, NY plant, there was a second $500.00 scholarship awarded for use in the 2025-26 academic year. Thanks to the generosity of Brian's friends and colleagues, there was a second $500.00 scholarship awarded for use in the 2026-27 academic year.
The award criteria is based on a combination of academic performance, pursuit of higher education within an environmental or engineering program, and the applicant’s career and professional goals.
We awarded two (2) $500.00 scholarship awards each in 2025 and 2026 on the basis of a comprehensive process and applicants are limited to those who live within, attend, or will attend a College or University in the “12---” zip codes (Eastern New York).
The application form for the 2027 program will be available at a later date (late-spring or early-summer 2027). Scholarship funds are paid directly to the individuals in August of the scholarship year.
The 2026-27 winners of the Brian S. Noel Memorial Scholarships are Sarah Martino (Clarkson University Environmental Engineering '30) and Vincent Zhang (University of Delaware Chemical Engineering '27) who received their scholarships in August 2026.
